Richard (Rick) Mack is an accomplished communications and marketing executive with more than 25 years of experience working with companies of all sizes from early-stage start-ups and high growth businesses to multi-billion, global organizations. Rick has been a trusted advisor to the C-suite, boards, sales leadership and other executives, partnering closely with each to drive reputation, stakeholder engagement and business growth. He is a respected, thoughtful leader that designs communications and marketing programs to influence key stakeholders through traditional and digital channels.
Rick has watched the role of marketers and communication professionals evolve over the years and has adapted storytelling strategies and best practices for modern businesses. Today, successful communications rely on integrated narratives and programs regardless of what an organization is selling (a product or service, its stock, its vision or even the company) and to whom (customers, investors, media, analysts, employees). Rick’s ability to communicate, influence and drive connections between all these endpoints is the foundation of his work and the business value he has delivered for companies and clients.
Since 2022, Rick has served as a fractional CMO and CCO for a variety of businesses through his advisory practice, RHM Communications. He has advised clients in engagements that include reengineering a company’s go-to-market strategy and assets, repositioning a business in advance of fundraising and M&A initiatives, developing an overall brand strategy and messaging, and serving as the interim communications executive during an organization’s transformation.
Prior to these advisory and executive roles, Rick was the chief marketing and communications officer for Cerence Inc. where he developed the company’s brand and positioning, launched its public offering, and significantly raised its profile among customers, partners, investors and the industry.
Before Cerence, Rick held leadership and executive roles at Nuance Communications where he led global marketing, communications and several strategic, defining moments for the business. Key initiatives included comprehensive communications for more than 100 M&A transactions and corporate events, a purpose and culture initiative that redefined the organization and its mission, an expansive nine-month crisis communications effort across myriad stakeholders, and rebranding/renaming the company that positioned the business for rapid expansion and growth.
Rick began his career at RSA Security and with a variety of communications firms including Weber Shandwick, Lois Paul & Partners, and Hill & Knowlton. Throughout his career, he has led numerous communications and marketing disciplines, including brand strategy, media relations, investor relations, executive communications, customer marketing, digital properties, crisis communications, M&A, event management, employee engagement, social media, influencer marketing, reputation management, government affairs and ESG efforts.
He resides with his family in Winchester, MA and is a graduate of Connecticut College.
